Top 15 Emily Dickinson Quotes to Give You Hope and Inspiration

Why are Emily Dickinson Quotes so famous?

Just 20 years ago, it was quite rare for people to work from home. But, as the world evolves and technology advances, more and more people are beginning to just that. Working from home can be a blast when it’s all going well, but it can also be very lonely and tiring place when it goes wrong. And the worst part is, that there’s no one there to help pick you up in your hour of need.

But, don’t despair and don’t give up! There are things you can do that can help clear the cobwebs and pave the way to a more productive output. And one of those things is to take a few moments to “read and reflect”. What I mean by that is to read through some inspirational quotes from people who have succeeded before us. Then, reflect on how we can relate to those quotes and use them to push forward to achieve our own goals.

Emily Dickinson and Hope

The quotes I’m going to focus on today are all by Emily Dickinson. So, who is Emily Dickinson? Emily Dickinson was a American poet who was born in Amherst, Massachusetts on December 10, 1830. It was here she lived with her parents, older brother Austin and her younger sister, Lavina. Growing up during this era largely involved carrying out domestic chores such as baking and gardening, as well as attending school.

While Dickinson had many male friends, she never actually married. Unfortunately, her life was filled with many sorrows, including the death of her younger cousin, Sophia Holland among other dear friends and family. Later these frequent burials became an inspiration for some of her poems. And while Dickinson had an extremely close community-focused family, she began to become somewhat of a recluse.

What is Emily Dickinson Famous For?

Emily Dickinson Quotes

It was when she was in her twenties that Dickinson really became interested in writing. Altogether she wrote nearly 1,800 poems during her lifetime. The majority of these were actually written before the age of 35. However, she was a very private person and around 800 of them were recorded in a small booklet that no one but Dickinson saw. She did, however, share some of her poems with close friends and family. This was particularly true of her sister-in-law, Susan Dickinson.

Dickinson also sent around 100 of her poems to Thomas Wentworth Higginson. Higginson was an author of a piece in the Atlantic Monthly that encouraged young people to pursue their dreams in writing and go on to publish their works. While Dickinson did have some of her works published in the newspapers, most of these were printed anonymously. And many without her prior consent.

Emily Dickinson vs Whitman

Walt Whitman is another famous American poet from the same era. And while both he and Dickinson would have experienced some similar life experiences, on the most part they were very different from one another. Whitman grew up in the country and was very much a social butterfly. Whereas Dickinson was bout up in a prosperous area of New England and very much lept herself to herself.

Their writing styles were also quite different from one another.

Walt Whitman

Walt Whitman

Whitman was one for creating long and often complex poems. Dickinson’s, on the other hand, were much shorter and to the point. Many of Whitman’s poems were written for everyone and focused on patriotism and references to the Bible. In contrast, Dickinson’s poems are far more personal and a way of expressing her own thoughts and desires.

Between the years of 1858 and 1861, Dickinson encountered a great terror during this period, but the cause of that remains unknown. What we do know is that this period largely affected Dickinson’s writing.

Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson

Many poems by Emily Dickinson are written in a somewhat abstract manner. It’s often wondered whether these events are what drove her vivid imagination and creative output.

In 1864/1865 Dickinson received treatment for a serious eye condition. After this, rarely did she venture away from her home in Amherst. It was also around this time that she stopped formally assembling her poems into booklets. Manuscripts discovered from this time appeared unfinished. And life in general, was slowing down for Dickinson.

Where was Emily Dickinson Buried?

Dickinson’s father’s death occurred in 1874 and her mother’s in 1875. A few years later, in 1883, her nephew Gibb died at the young age of eight. Not long after this, on May 15, 1886, Dickinson herself passed away, aged 55. She was laid to rest just four days later in West Cemetery, Amherst. After her death, her sister, Lavina, discovered around 2,000 poems that Dickinson had written and showed them to the world.

Even though Dickinson herself was a very private person, her work has helped inspire many people across the world. She stood up firmly for what she believed in and bought a new kind of writing to the world as a result. Not only did these poems really touch individuals but they also changed the way people thought about them.

Emily Dickinson’s death was a great loss and one that was felt by many. However, her many quotes about grace, hope, and life itself will continue to shine through and inspire the world for many years to come.

The following quotes are some of the most inspiring from Emily Dickinson’s famous poems. I find that they are a great point of reference to turn to when working at home is getting you down and you need a little something to give you a boost:

Emily Dickinson Quotes to Inspire You

Emily Dickinson

“I dwell in possibility.”

The more open you are to new possibilities, the greater your chance of success.

It’s easy to get caught up in the moment, focusing on one main goal, and ignoring everything else. The problem with doing that is you may lose out on all other fantastic opportunities that come your way.

So, while it is good to be focused on your work, don’t disregard everything else going on. Instead, embrace the idea that anything is possible, and welcome it with open arms.

Emily Dickinson Quotes to Inspire

“That it will never come again is what makes life so sweet.”

Life is precious.

It’s also unpredictable. When an opportunity comes knocking, don’t turn it away. You may know exactly what you want to achieve by working at home, and so far, you may be doing a pretty good job of it. But, don’t let that fool you, as anything can happen in life.

Sometimes, when things are going well, it’s easy take things for granted. Then when something does go awry, it’s the end of the world. To try and avoid that, live for the moment instead of the future. Some opportunities only come around once and could make all the difference in the world. So be alert and take what you can get!

Emily Dickinson

“Not knowing when dawn will come I open every door.”

You will no doubt come across many challenges when working at home.

The important thing is to learn from these challenges opposed to back away from them. In order to truly tackle a problem, you need to fully understand why it’s not working. Only then can you move forward with a viable solution and be more productive.

Emily Dickinson Quotes

“Forever is composed of nows.”

When you think of forever, you probably think of a time a long way away.

But really, if you think about it, forever is happening all the time; it’s the present; the now. What Dickinson is trying to convey here is each and every moment in time is precious and should be made the most of.

So, when you’re faced with a work task that you keep putting off because it seems hard or long-winded, don’t. Time goes too quick and what may seem like a lifetime away is really just around the corner. By dealing with it in the now, you’ll have more time to do other things later.

Emily Dickinson Quotes

“Finite to fail, but infinite to venture.”

If you’ve ever heard the expression, nothing ventured, nothing gained, it’s pretty much the same messages being delivered here. Working from home is tough, but it can have big rewards. The key to is you have to be disciplined and just stick with it.

At the end of the day, your plan could fail miserably. But there’s also a good chance that you’ll succeed. And if you don’t at least give it a go, you’ll always fail. So, take the bull by the horn and give it everything you’ve got. When you venture, you almost always gain.

Emily Dickinson Quotes

“If you take care of the small things, the big things take care of themselves. You gain more control over your life by paying closer attention to the little things.”

To be successful in working from home you need to be able to get things done and get them done efficiently. One of the ways you can ensure this happens is to prioritize. Focus on the things that are important and that you know you can do. If you spend too much time fretting over things you can’t do, you’ll find you get very little done.

Emily Dickinson Quotes About Hope

Emily Dickinson Quotes

“Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul - and sings the tunes without the words - and never stops at all.”

Hope to survive and succeed is the thing that drives us to get up each morning and do all we can do. Even when work is driving you crazy and you feel like you’re getting nowhere, hope is still there, pushing you on. Nothing can faze hope, and therefore nothing should faze you. If you feel like giving up, just dig a little deeper and have a little hope. Things will get better.

Emily Dickinson Quotes

“They might not need me; but they might. I’ll let my head be just in sight; a smile as small as mine might be precisely their necessity.”

Every interaction you have with a person has a ripple effect. For example, if you deal with a supplier or colleague over the phone and are in a really good mood, that mood and those feelings will resonate and the person you’re dealing with soon becomes more uplifted. Then this will resonate with the next person they deal with, and so on and so forth.

It doesn't take much to start this ripple, and even something as simple as a smile can do it. However, just be aware that the same happens with negativity. So, if you are in a bad mood and need to deal with colleagues or suppliers, take a moment to cool down before upsetting the ripple.

Emily Dickinson

“A wounded deer leaps the highest.”

Nobody is right all the time. If you’re new to the world of working from home, you may have been planning for months exactly how it’s all going to run. However, I guarantee that when you start, there will be at least one thing that you hadn’t planned for that may your work a little more challenging.

Being faced with unexpected challenges may seem tough at the time, but often it’s these times that we learn the most from. It pushes us to places we probably would have never ventured otherwise. So, if you do get knocked down by something unexpected, simply pick yourself up, and keep on moving. At least now, you’ll be even stronger and more knowledgeable than before.

Emily Dickinson Quotes

“Truth is such a rare thing, it is delightful to tell it.”

Unfortunately, the world is full of lies. And whether they are big or small, pretty much everyone does it. And the worst part is, we often lie to ourselves too. The problem is that when we lie, a part of us begins to believe that lie, and in the end, we are only deceiving ourselves.

When working out home, set yourself realistic goals and stick to them. Don’t bend the goalposts if it looks like you’re not going to hit a target. Simply accept the situation for what it is, and look for ways to improve it. Fooling yourself will only lead to failure.

Emily Dickinson Quotes

“The heart wants what it wants - or else it does not care.”

If there’s one thing that’s imperative to success it’s knowing what you want and having the courage to go for it. Setting up a business from home is no small feat, but if that’s what you truly want to do, then don’t let anyone stop you.

In order to achieve all your dreams and ambitions, you need to follow your heart at all times. Don’t live your life by how others want you to live as your heart will never truly be in it.

Emily Dickinson

“Faith is a fine invention. When gentlemen can see, but microscopes are prudent In an emergency.”

What Dickinson is implying here is that while you need to have faith in all you do, faith alone won’t won’t save you. It’s important to believe in your work, but simply thinking something is good, won’t make you a success.

Humans were given free will and intellect for a reason. While having faith is important, you also need to work hard and use your own intellectual tools in which to succeed.

Other Famous Emily Dickinson Quotes

Emily Dickinson Quotes

“We turn not older with years, but newer every day.”

Working from home you’ll often be presented with new challenges. But just remember the above quote and that each day is a new day. And each day, we have the opportunity to succeed, excel, and live life to the full.

Emily Dickinson Quotes

“The brain is wider than the sky.”

You’re never too old or young to learn something new. Don’t shy away from the unknown. When faced with a new challenge when working from home, don’t see it as a setback. Instead, look at it as an opportunity to learn something new. The brain is a powerful machine - put it to good use!

Emily Dickinson Quotes

“There is always one thing to be grateful for - that one is one’s self and not somebody else.”

Positivity can go a long way, in both work life and everyday life. You should never be disappointed for being you. If you set yourself up to do a task and fail, so what? Try again. No one is perfect, and anyone that strives to be is wasting their energy, quite frankly.

You are in control of working from home, and the goals you want to achieve. No one else. So don’t waste time wishing you weren't you. Be happy with yourself and all you do and it’s more likely you will succeed.

In Summary

We hope you enjoyed the above article. As you can see, Emily Dickinson was a very strong-minded and talented individual. She liked to express her feelings in a number of cryptic and often morbid poems. That being said, she also wrote a lot about hope, faith, and love, and continues to be a great inspiration today for many people who enjoy her poems.

Ever heard of The Alchemist? Or The Alchemist Quotes?

Before we talk about the famous quotes, lets talk about The Alchemist book and why it relates so much to entrepreneurs and people working from home.

The Alchemist is a book that was written by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho in 1987 and first published in 1988. While it wasn’t until a few years after it was first published did it start to gain popularity. The Alchemist has now sold more than two million copies across the world and is considered to be one of the best modern classics ever.

The Alchemist Summary and Review

The main theme of the book is about how to follow your dreams and finding your destiny.

It features an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who simply wants to be free to wander carelessly with his sheep. However, he keeps having a recurring dream of a magnificent treasure located far away in the base of the great Egyptian Pyramids.

Santiago later meets a strange wise man named Melchizedek who says he is a king from a land far away. Following this meeting, Santiago decides to go to Africa in order to pursue his dream. So, the next day he sells his sheep and off he goes. When Santiago gets to Africa, he realizes things won’t be as easy as he first thought. On his very first day in Tangiers, Santiago is robbed.

Being in a strange country...

And not being able to speak a word of Arabic, Santiago wondered whether it was best he simply give up and go home. However, he then remembered the words of the wise man and stayed put. He found a job in a local crystal shop and here he learned many valuable lessons about life and his Personal Legend (dreams).

Eventually, Santiago realizes enough money to buy a new flock of sheep and return to his home. But in the last minute, he makes a snap decision and heads for Egypt in a caravan. Along the way, Santiago meets a man who has come all the way from England in search of a well-known alchemist. As they travel, the man tells young shepherd boy about the art of alchemy. Together the two men speak of a Soul of the World in which we’re all linked and how it’s important to follow our own Personal Legend.

Upon arrival at the Al-Fayoum oasis

Santiago falls in love with a beautiful girl named Fatima. As he travels through the desert he has a vision of an impending battle. When it’s confirmed, he is offered a counselor position. While Santiago wants to stay with Fatima at the oasis, the Alchemist tells him that he will take him to his treasure.

As Santiago makes his way to his treasure he is taught by the Alchemist to listen to his heart. When almost to the pyramid the pair are captured by a warring tribe. While in captivity, the Alchemist tells the tribesmen that Santiago is a very powerful magician and that he can transform himself into the wind. In awe of what the Alchemist is saying, the tribesmen give Santiago a chance to show them and say that they will spare their lives if he can.

The problem with this is that Santiago had no clue

Santiago didn't know how to do this and after three long days of meditating, he used all he knew of the Soul of the World to ask for help from the elements. He asks for help from the desert, the wind, and the sun. Almost instantly, the wind whirls up and Santiago vanishes, only to reappear on the other side of the camp. It’s at this point that the Alchemist leaves Santiago to continue on to the Pyramids. Once there, he is attacked by a group of robbers. When they asked what he was doing there he told them he was seeking treasure. One of the robbers laughed and said he too had the same dream, only his treasure was in Spain.

It’s at this point that Santiago realizes his treasure was back in Spain the whole time. The story then concludes by jumping forward in time to where Santiago is digging a hole at the bottom of the tree where he first had this dream. Here he finds a trunk full of gold with more than enough in it for him and Fatima to live happily ever after.

Working from home has many great benefits to it.

You have the flexibility of being able to do things around the house, being more flexible with your working schedule, and there’s no commuting involved! Hoorah!

However, the biggest downside to working at home is there’s no one there to motivate you, inspire you, or help you out when feeling overwhelmed. And that's where quotes will help you out. Whether it's quotes from Les Brown, Vince Lombardi or Paulo Coehlo, you'll find so much inspiration, motivation and real life applications.

The following article will take you through a journey

The journey of some of the most powerful Paulo Coelho quotes taken from The Alchemist book. As well as being a great story there’s also a lot of deep and meaningful connotations hidden within the text, many of which are easy to relate to while working from home.

Quotes from The Alchemist to Inspire You

“And when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: This is probably the most powerful of all of the quotes from the Alchemist and is largely what the book is based upon.

There’s a lot to be said for having a positive mental attitude. The message Coelho was conveying here is that if you truly want something bad enough, it will happen.

Whether it’s fate or luck, or simply a coincidence, you can pretty much guarantee the more focus and positive energy you can pour into something the better the results will be, every time.

So, don’t let working from home bog you down. Determine what your goals are and go out there and get them!

"I see the world in terms of what I would like to see happen, not what actually does.”
- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: Without dreams and aspirations, how would anyone ever succeed?

You have to set yourself goals, and the more unrealistic, the better. Having a dream that is so far out of reach will mean you’ll never slow down in trying to achieve it.

If everyone chose to accept the world as it is, some of the best inventions in the world would have never been invented. Ignore the impossible and great things will happen.

"There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.”

- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: No one likes to fail, but without failures, there would be no successes.

People learn from their mistakes, not by sitting down watching the world go by. It’s better to have tried and failed, rather than never tried at all.

If you don’t at least try to achieve your hope and dreams then how can you ever expect to achieve them? Don’t ever fear failure when trying something new as it means your one step closer to getting it right.

“No one should feel afraid of the unknown, because everyone is capable of achieving everything he wants and needs.”
- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: Don’t focus all your time and energy on what you don’t know or can’t change as it won’t get you anywhere. If you’re one of those people that always puts off doing things they’re unsure of, then this largely applies to you.

A lot of times tasks are only daunting if we’ve never done them before. But, as soon as you dive right in and give it a try, you’ll soon find it becomes a lot less scary.

The trick is not to put things off that you’re unsure of. Pick it up, own it, and tell yourself you can achieve it. The chances are you will.

productive_or_not

"To realize one’s destiny is a person’s only obligation.”
- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: You should always try and live your life as if to get one step closer to where you want to be. Life is for living and dreams are for reaching.

Whatever your work goals are, never feel like they are out of reach as anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Your destiny is what you make it, and that should be your sole focus.

"People are capable, at any time in their lives, of doing what they dream of.”
- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: This is such a powerful message that I think a lot of people tend to forget.

It doesn’t matter what age you are, you can always achieve your dreams.

People work from home for different reasons and age should never be a barrier. You’re never too old to learn something new. You just need to know what you want and go get it.

Quotes from The Alchemist to Motivate You

“And, when you can’t go back, you have to worry only about the best way of moving forward.”
- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: Everyone makes mistakes. We’re all human, at the end of the day.

The trick with mistakes is to not dwell on them.

Instead, we need to learn from them and move forward. Unless you have some kind of magic time machine, you’re never going to be able to change the past.

So, if something bad does happen while you’re working at home, the best thing you can do is evaluate the situation and take preventive measures to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Working from home requires a lot of adapting and flexibility to get the right mix. But, once you have the formula right, it can be very rewarding indeed.

"The secret of life, though, is to fall seven times and to get up eight times.”
- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: The main message being conveyed here is when life and work gets you down, simply get back up and try again.

Some of the greatest authors ever had many rejections along the way.

Had they have given up at the first hurdle, some of the greatest novels would never have been discovered.

Working at home and trying to find the right balance between work life and home life is tough.

But, the key is to be adaptive.

If one way of doing something isn’t working, simple keep adapting your schedule until you find something that works for everyone. Never accept defeat and always move forward.

"When each day is the same as the next, it’s because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises.”
- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: I think anyone who works from home can easily relate to this quote.

When you work the same place as you live, it can sometimes be hard to break the monotony as it can often feel as though you’re constantly at work.

To try and combat this feeling, make a point of finding something good in each and every day. Work is only boring if we let it be.

If things are feeling a little stale, then shake up your schedule a little and do things in a different order. You’d be surprised at how much of a difference this can make.

"If someone isn’t what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”
- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: Don’t lose focus in what you’re trying to achieve. It’s very easy to become influenced by those around us. The problem with that is you end up living someone’s life.

While it’s great to get input and advice from others, don’t lose sight of what your dreams are and what’s important to you.

Spend your time and energy focusing on your own path as opposed to that of others and you’ll find yourself in a much better position to be able to reap the rewards you were looking for.

"There is only one way to learn. It’s through action.”
- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: When working from home for the first time there are going to be things you come across that you’ve not dealt with.

And while the internet is a great place to read up on pretty much anything, it’s never truly going to sink in until you do it.

So, whether it’s changing an ink cartridge, setting up a wireless network, or installing a whole new phone system, you’re just going to have to get stuck in and give it a go.

Once you’ve done it once it will be a whole lot easier (and a lot less scary) the next time around.

"When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.”
- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: There’s always room for improvement, no matter what we do.

As you develop in your role and home, you should always continue to evolve to make things run more smoothly.

The more clockwork your work becomes, the better you will feel in yourself.

This will have a knock-on effect and soon you’ll find that not only have you become a better version of yourself, but so have those around you as a result.

productive_or_not

"At a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what’s happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That’s the world’s greatest lie.”
- The Alchemist

Real life Alchemist Quote Application: Never get caught up in thinking that you don't have control over your own destiny. Sure, there may be forces in life that point us in certain directions, but never is anyone’s fate set in stone.

If you find yourself having trouble fitting everything in that you need to, take a moment to sit back and draw up a schedule that works. Sometimes, it takes having something written down to really see what’s going on. You may find that you’re spending a lot of time and energy in one area, but not enough in another. Try and balance it out by streamlining any lengthy processes.

10 Amazing Vince Lombardi Quotes on Hard Work, Discipline and Success

Vince Lombardi (1913-1970) is widely considered as one of the greatest coaches in the history of the NFL. In addition to NEVER losing a single season, he managed to win the first two Super Bowls ever played (1966 and 1967).

He also became an inspiration for generations of coaches and players with his passionate and careful way of leading.

Why should you pay attention to Vince Lombardi’s philosophy?

Because he was a self-made man,who understood the importance of dedicating yourself to what you set out to do. No matter if you win or lose, his wisdom can be an excellent source of insight into yourself and your way of working at home.

He can also teach how to maintain a “winning” mental attitude which is probably much more complicated than you imagine. It’s easy to start any task with a positive mindset, but once fatigue and problems set in, you’ll probably want to either go home and quit or just finish it as quickly as possible.

A winning mental attitude means that you’ll keep going and try to do it as best as you can, no matter the difficulties that arise.

The 10 Best Vince Lombardi Quotes

“The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.”
- Vince Lombardi

The Vince Lombardi quote in practice:

Working from home without any supervision is challenging. But looking at your results can really tell who you are.

You might not have everything you want and you probably never will. However, looking at your results through the lends of what you’ve been given is important. It’s what Vince Lombardi says “the measure” you should be concerned about.

Ask yourself this question to get ahead:

      - Are you getting everything you want out of everything you have?

By focusing on what you have, instead of what you want, you’ll start to organize and plan.

Try creating a roadmap of how to get there. This allows you to set milestones and divide your time accordingly. You’ll get a better sense of progress even if the finish line seems super far away.

Remember big things can have small beginnings and you can end up doing a lot with what you got.

“Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.”
- Vince Lombardi

The Vince Lombardi quote in practice:

Reviewing your bad habits is essential when working from home. Even with good habits, sometimes things go terribly wrong.

Don’t get in the habit of putting the blame on something or something else. Sometimes things are not going to go your way despite your immense efforts, but maintaining your good habits will give you the best chance of winning and succeeding.

Ask yourself what your good habits are, and how can you make it easier to do them? Then ask yourself, what are your bad habits and how can you stop or replace them with a good habit?

By taking inventory of your habits, you can more easily track them, change them, and propel yourself to success.

“Football is like life - it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority.”
- Vince Lombardi

The Vince Lombardi quote in practice:

Working from home requires all the elements Vince Lombardi mentioned. Let’s not kid ourselves how hard it is. With distractions from family, long lunches with friends trips to the kitchen and the constant checking of social media, it’s hard to stay focused when working from home.

Hard work is necessary, and sacrifices are needed. So ask yourself, are you putting in all the effort you can and what have you sacrificed recently for your work?

It’s hard not to slack at home or make excuses. But to see your true potential and be an authority, you must find it within your inner self. That’s how you’ll grow. That’s how you gain respect. And that’s how you succeed in work and in life.

“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.”
- Vince Lombardi

The Vince Lombardi quote in practice:

Whether you’re an entrepreneur or a full-time worker at home, you’re going to be “knocked down.”You might lose your biggest customer, your staff could leave you, or you could lose your job.

Getting right back up is the most important. And it takes courage. That courage can be found in the little habits you build daily. These habits can be an exercise in the morning, eating a healthy breakfast, avoiding social media, reading something enriching, building healthy relationships and so on.

Sometimes it’s hard for us to see the right side of being knocked down. For example, being laid off from your job might seem like a horrible thing at first, however, over time, it just might be the best thing possible. Perhaps you will eventually find that dream job you’ve been searching for. But what’s important is that you get right back up and start taking action.

“The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender.”
- Vince Lombardi

The Vince Lombardi quote in practice:

When was the last time you worked so hard time flew by? In those moments, your mind isn’t making any excuses, and you’re definitely not surrendering to the “I’ll do it later” attitude.

It’s easy to work when you’re in that flow, but how do you get into it?

The secret lies in being curious. Be curious about the little details of your work. Be curious about your customers. Be curious about your systems and processes.

When that curiosity starts to take over your brain, you’ll find you’ll be in a flow state. But watch out, because you could burn yourself out. Watch your energy and your time.

One thing for sure, once you have settled into a curiosity-driven routine, you’ll be able to be more productive. The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender!

“Mental toughness is many things and rather difficult to explain. Its qualities are sacrifice and self-denial. Also, most importantly, it is combined with a perfectly disciplined will that refuses to give in. It’s a state of mind – you could call it a character in action.”
- Vince Lombardi

The Vince Lombardi quote in practice:

Working at home is sometimes a grind. You clock in in the morning and end in the evening. You deal with customers and deal with your boss. You eliminate distractions, but more distractions come about.

It's you move throughout the day, new problems arise and are solved. Your mind is never in a static state.

And that’s the mental toughness Vince Lombardi is talking about. It’s when you take action throughout the day that you can overcome so many things. Sometimes it requires the sacrifice of time and resources. But often than not, it requires discipline to stay on track, to do the right things, and to push forward.

Your productivity is a result of your mental toughness in action. Ask yourself, is your state of mind in action or in a static position?

“A disciplined person is the one who follows the will of the one who gives the orders.”
- Vince Lombardi

The Vince Lombardi quote in practice:

Sometimes you’ll receive marching orders from your boss that you might not like at all. Or a customer will demand things that just are just shocking. No matter how terrible Lombardi’s discipline comes into action.

Following those orders is no just part of any job, no matter where you do it, but it’s an integral component of life. So discipline will get you through them but changing your point of view can make them more palatable.

Here’s how those distasteful orders that may change your perspective:

Is the criticism meant to improve the quality of my work?

A lot of managers/bosses take a hands-on approach while others prefer to let their employees figure it out themselves. See which profile fits your boss better and trying to fulfill his needs without going crazy.

Remember, they can help you, in the long run, to keep your job, get a raise, or improve your standing with your bosses. An excellent and reliable employee can be very valuable to the right people. They also reveal how you’re seen by your superiors or customers.

“You defeat defeatism with confidence.”
- Vince Lombardi

The Vince Lombardi quote in practice:

When we don’t get the results we want, we’re often plagued with defeatism. One negative thought leads to another, and to another, and to another. When our defeatism spirals down, it makes us angry, unproductive and ultimately defeated. So what can we do?

Try building up your confidence.

Split up larger tasks into small, easy “McDonald Tasks.” What is a McDonald task? It’s a task so small that you just can’t screw it up. Like putting a patty on a burger bun, or writing one sentence for your book.

Another way to build confidence is through analysis. Find out where you failed before. Look deep and demystify your errors. See how you can approach and do things differently next time. Maybe it's investing a new modern desk to help. Or it could be using your left hand for writing instead of your right. By doing so, you’ll naturally not be afraid of the task in the future.

Lastly, consider delegating or rejecting tasks that are truly beyond what you can handle. Confidence also means knowing what your limits are and where your strengths lie. Take time to analyze your tasks to see what fits you.

By doing McDonald Tasks, failure analysis, and delegating or rejecting, you’ll be able to develop confidence fast. And that’s how you defeat defeatism.

“If you aren’t fired with enthusiasm, you’ll be fired with enthusiasm.”
- Vince Lombardi

The Vince Lombardi quote in practice:

Even if you like your job and you do it well, sometimes the grind is going get the best of you. And you’ll be acting on autopilot. But the inertia will get you through the day.

However, you can’t be joyful and enthusiastic EVERY single day. Nobody can. But you can definitely set a standard for what you consider a solid daily performance and stick to it.

Ask yourself if you’re sticking to the daily performance standard you set out to maintain?

By answering this question, you’ll probably find areas where you can improve and increases your enthusiasm. These areas are often in the quality of your work, relationships with your superiors and customers, and even your well being.

Be careful though, as showing too much enthusiasm will generate the wrong impression. Genuine interest will be much more appreciated by everyone in the long run.

“Success demands singleness of purpose.”
- Vince Lombardi

The Vince Lombardi quote in practice:

To achieve success, less is more. Repeat that last sentence. Less is more. It’s through elimination that you can you can genuinely focus all your energy, time and resources on what matters most to you. Whether this is your purpose, a passion project, or an end goal, it’s eliminating the waste that will help you achieve your real purpose.

Ever heard of the 80/20 principle? It’s a unique formula found in almost all of nature and in business. For example, 80% of all your crops are yielded from 20% of all the fruit trees. 80% of all your business revenue comes from 20% of all your clients. 80% of all your success comes from 20% of your time working. You get the idea but what does this have to do with purpose?

It’s simple. By eliminating the unnecessary 80%, you are being uber productive. In effect, that’s singleness of purpose. It's aligned to a majority of Les Brown's teachings.

Ask yourself, what is the 80% that you can eliminate today? Is it social media, troublesome customers, frustrating vendors, unhealthy habits? Find it, remove it, and move on.

Les Brown Motivational Quotes to Increase Your Productivity

Les Brown quotes inspiration and motivation

“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.”

Real-life application: One of Les Brown's most famous reach for the moon quotes. At first glance this might seem like a quote about negativity. However, this quote is telling us to dream and aim high, amidst the risk of failure. There is nothing in this world that doesn’t involve failure. For example, if you're aiming to be a CEO of a company, while not always a possible dream, it can still help you to reach a high managerial position if you strive hard and study well in your younger years. Truly, this is one of the best aim for the stars quotes out there that can inspire anyone.

What's one thing you can do today? Find your dream and start shooting for your "moon". Dreams can change over time however, but what's more important is to move step by step in the direction of your dreams.

"Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else."

Real-life application: While it is true that “teamwork makes the dream work”, depending on your team too much can become unproductive and will lead to failure of any task. Whether at work or in school or in any profession you’re in, taking responsibility over your given tasks and your duties in life is of great importance.

Without first motivating yourself, you can never be a fully-functional part of a team or organization, because you will have the tendency to depend on other people too much. Learn how to stand up on your own and have a backup plan to prevent your dreams from becoming failures.

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

“You cannot expect to achieve new goals or move beyond your present circumstances unless you change.”

Real-life application: Setting a new goal for yourself, such as getting a promotion, will definitely require you to change some aspect of yourself. It could push you to becoming a more resourceful person.

For example, did you ever consider becoming more open to suggestions from others but still maintaining a balance between logical and emotional decisions? If you open your doors to unexplored ideas, you might eventually find yourself in a much better position than before or now. Long story short, the secret to getting achieving your goals lies in your ability to change and adapt to the world’s circumstances.

Les Brown Inspirational Quotes

Les Brown quotes inspiration and motivation

“Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears.”

Real-life application: a lot of us wanted a certain course or career in our life, but our family or friends keep us from doing so.

The solution: go for what you really want, even if it involves risks, as long as you don’t hurt anyone.

Many budding artists and musicians are deprived of their art form as a profession because they will “end up being a starving artist”. However, many people have found success in art and music, because they never stopped believing and they conquered their fears – and so should you!

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

“Life has no limitations, except the ones you make.”

Real-life application: much like with the above-mentioned quote, some of our youth and children today are only stopped for their dreams because they live in fear and limitations. If we encourage them to grow and have their own identity, they will find true success. If you are a student and you’re being pressured for choosing a “marketable” course, don’t limit yourself to the ones already chosen by your friends – research and find the most ideal one for you that you will truly love.

Sometimes, breaking our limits is the only way that we can achieve what we want in life, so long as we go on without hurting others. In achieving anything, the best way to do so is to think outside of the box – make plans that will become a challenge so you can become the best version of yourself one day.

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

“There are three ingredients in the good life: learning, earning and yearning.”

Real-life application: true success comes not only with earning money but having a passion for your work and the continuous learning process that you engage in. One way to keep you inspired is to have a yearning for something.

For instance, if you’re a teacher: what keeps you motivated and inspired to teach misbehaved children even while having rough schedules at hand? For most, it’s the yearning to help them become better citizens of this world and for them to have and/or achieve their dreams in life.

If we combine the process of constant learning, we eventually get over our past mistakes and move on to become a better person from yesterday, thereby not only possibly getting a promotion in our work, but maybe even getting fulfillment for what we truly yearn for.

Les Brown quotes inspiration and motivation

“It has been said, most people die at age 25 and don’t get buried until they are 65. Make an effort to live your life to the fullest.”

Real-life application: many people end up becoming office robots for the rest of their lives without realizing that they’ve basically thrown their life away by the time they reach their senior age. Don’t let your life rot away without enjoying every piece of it – take a vacation sometimes and don’t hesitate to spend most of that money you’ve hard-earned for something that you truly enjoy.

Remember: true success is not the same for everyone. While mass media tells you that being a CEO or a manager is the best kind of success, some people find success in being able to go fishing in a lake on a very peaceful day or having a game of golf over the weekend.

Some people just wanted to settle down in marriage and some prefer being single for life. Some independent musicians take a day job and earn so they can build their own home studio and eventually become successful composers one day.

What matters in life is not how long you’ve lived – it’s how fruitful or how happy your life has been. If you don’t live a fulfilling life right now while you’re still young, you might regret it sooner or later. You may want to already set goals in life when you’re around 20 to 30 years old, so you can be able to travel your favorite city or play your favorite sport while you’re still young and healthy – life has so much to offer!

Les Brown’s When Life Knocks You Down Quotes

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

“The greatest revenge is a massive success.”

Real-life application: Truly, this is one of the coolest relentless quotes you can find, especially if you’re in a tough spot. Everyone will tend to have haters in some way or another, so the best way to tell them off is to prove that you can be more successful than them – let your achievements and accomplishments do the talking!

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

"Other people's opinion of you does not have to become your reality.”

Real-life application:  when you go after what you want in life, you don’t have to listen to your haters. Success comes mostly from your own ideas and if you think that other people’s opinions keep you from achieving your dreams, then you have the choice not to listen to them! People can talk about you on Facebook 24/7, but they won’t know the real story because they never lived your life!

Les Brown quotes inspiration and motivation

“The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry out their dream.”

Real-life application:  does this Les Brown quote sound TL;DR? Let’s summarize it in a simple sentence: stay determined for your dreams, no matter what comes your way. Many people have either committed suicide due to depression and peer pressure from people who want to stop their dreams, or they have wasted their lives in a profession they are forced to and never loved, hence they’ve already died inside a little each day.

Illness, whether physical or mental, can kill our potentially successful people just even before we can find the cure to cancer, listen to a very inspirational composer, read a life-changing book or get inspired by a movie that could potentially impact our lives for the better. If we don’t want these potentially inspirational people to just end up in the graveyard, we have to give them importance and motivation – appreciate them and celebrate even their smallest success!

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

“Just because Fate doesn’t deal you the right cards, it doesn’t mean you should give up. It just means you have to play the cards you get to their maximum potential.”

Real-life application:  this is synonymous with “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade” in a sense. Many people who’ve gone through terrible physical accidents are still functioning members of society, and you’ll find them in most offices living like a normal person. When all odds are against you, creativity is your best friend.

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

“If you don’t program yourself, life will program you!”

Real-life application:  this applies to people who don’t currently have their own identity. This may take some time since it’s hard to choose a career path if you don’t know what you really love, but you will get there. The best way to start is to find what really inspires you or makes you happy and don’t let life dictate what you should be – let your voice be heard!

Les Brown quotes inspiration and motivation

“Tell yourself that if it’s hard, I’ll do it hard. I’m unstoppable!”

Real-life application:  this is yet another one of the best relentless quotes from Les Brown himself. Don’t let life stop you no matter how difficult the challenge is. If you really love computer programming but you generally suck at math, don’t let that stop you from your dream – math is something that you can learn to be good at, eventually!

Les Brown Quotes About Hard Work Paying Off

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

“Be willing to go all out, in pursuit of your dream. Ultimately it will pay off. You are more powerful than you think you are. Go for it.”

Real-life application:  this simple and straightforward way of motivating anyone who has dreams is one of the best known Les Brown quotes about hard work paying off. If you think that your efforts are still futile or pointless – think again. Wait, and wait some more. Have patience and combine it with hard work, and you will eventually achieve your goal. It may not be now, but maybe next month or next year.

This quote simply tells you that if you think it’s all over, it’s not. As one quote said, “if it’s not okay, then it’s not the end” – there is still so much for you to give and to make, no matter how old you are. Some musicians and artists ultimately get discovered in their 30s or 40s, and even Colonel Sanders achieved billionaire status in his senior years.

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

“Help others achieve their dreams and you will achieve yours.”

Real-life application: true success comes from working with others, not just with yourself. You will eventually see your hard work paying off when you treat your employees or co-workers right to accomplish a task or project, and that is called teamwork – an important component of success. This is a great Les Brown quote that can help you motivate yourself and others.

While it is okay to achieve something on your own so you can stand up for yourself, it is also important to pay it forward and help others so in that way, you are giving other people a chance to be successful and their hard work paying off eventually.

Les Brown quotes inspiration and motivation

“If no one answered right away, just keep knocking until you wake them up!”

Real-life application: this applies when you’re applying for a job. Don’t feel impatient, but don’t just quit. Instead, keep giving it a try on as many companies as you can and who knows – you might end up getting the answer to your prayers for a future career at hand!

Les Brown’s Start Over Quotes

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

“Forgive yourself for your faults and your mistakes and move on.”

Real-life application: Often we're in need of starting off quotes. However, this one is for after you've taken the first step and had a fall. In life, we can’t always dwell on the past, since you can never change it. You can, however, change the future. For example, you can’t prevent a mistake you’ve done to your friend, business partner or family, but you can, however, make it up to them by not repeating the same mistake or doing good things to them.

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

“Live out of your imagination instead of out of your memory.”

Real-life application: much like with the above-mentioned quote, lingering in the past will do you no good. The past is only like a writing in a permanent ink set to guide you on your way, but it does not define who you are!

Not many people are exercising creativity, especially if they have the need to start over again. Learn to be adaptive to the situation in the real world by using your imagination, and that will bring you a sense of originality, self-esteem and a success that you can be proud of one day.

Les Brown quotes inspiration and motivation

“Our ability to handle life’s challenges is a measure of our strength of character.”

Real-life application: basically, our problems in life are what makes us stronger people. If you have to deal with starting over again on a project or any aspect of life, and you eventually became successful at it, that means that you’ve grown to become a strong person despite adversaries and whatever life throws at you.

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

“If you want to grow and develop yourself, embrace failure. If you want to become the best at what you do, you’ve got to be willing to fail, again and again. And then finally, one day, you can fail your way to greatness.”

Real-life application: failure is always part of success, no matter what you do in life. What matters is that you learn from your failure and start over again – get back on your feet and keep trying until you’ve gotten back on track! Don’t let a rejected proposal worry you – work on ways to improve it and give it another try!

Les Brown’s Relationship Goals Quotes

Les Brown quotes Thumbnail small productive or not

“Perfection does not exist — you can always do better and you can always grow.”

Real-life application: Often we look to quotes on perfectionism to see how we can be better each and every day. However, there is no such thing as a perfect relationship – be it your significant other, your family, your friends or anyone close to you. You can, however, try to fix your mistakes and strive hard to learn from them. That is the essence of a strong and healthy relationship – it’s okay to have arguments, so long as you resolve them after. Couples who have gone through 25th or 50th anniversaries have definitely gone through tough times, but they got through it together.

Les Brown quotes inspiration and motivation

“Families are who we are, after all. They are a looking glass, and in the best of cases, they can be a source of empowerment and support for getting the thing we can’t out of life.”

Real-life application: while this applies to all families and societies, it also applies to relationships. The best way for a relationship to survive long enough is to have a support system in case one fails their dreams. After all, the marriage vow prompts both husband and wife to stick together “for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health”.

This is one of the better being broke quotes out there. It speaks to who we are as a person and how we should turn to our families for the best source of power. Never forget family.
